We were right by the airport, so as we watched the sun fall over the horizon, occasionally a giant plane would take off and fly right over our heads. It felt like if we put our arms up we could grab on and fly away!
I carried my Piece of Plumey in my pocket as I watched the sunset, and I wished I could seal that moment in the bottle and keep it forever. The only thing that could have made it better was if Justin was holding my hand instead of me holding his memory in my hand.
In our very first blog post, Justin's Aunt Nanny made a request:
"When Jutty was little he used to love to "back-up" into a tree or bushes and just kinda let the branches enfold him until he disappeared. He would just STAY THERE, very still and quiet, in his own little place. (of course this drove us crazy when we were looking for him!) Can you leave a "piece" of Plumey tucked back in some cozy branches?"
This one is especially for you Nanny!
Piece 14: Earthquake Park, Anchorage, Alaska
Memory #14:
He was fascinated with electricity, especially dams. On road trips, much to his wife’s dismay, he wanted stop at every dam along the way, even the ones he had seen a million times before. Then, of course, he would try to inject the word “dam” into all of his sentences for the next hour.
We wanted to find a dam to put this memory at, but we haven't found one yet. Hopefully we will before the end of our trip.
Also, I forgot to mention that the person who found Piece 9 posted on the blog! It's under the comments section of our very first post. Two bottles have been accounted for!!!! Exciting!!!!
Tomorrow we are hiking on a glacier, and, of course, leaving behind another special memory!

It's so fun following along on this healing journey! Justin would be so proud of you, as usual. Thank you for tucking that little imp into those yummy bushes! I think I hear him giggling...:) I miss him in so many stages of his life. Your sweet memories not only help to process and heal, they help me know that YOU will be okay. Journey On! With Love, Nanny OXOXO
ReplyDeleteP.S. Got to thinking if that bottle isn't found, you know Jutty will want to go find it when he wakes up! Hey! Maybe we can ALL go and watch that beautiful sunset, too! :) I'll bring the moose spray. (Do they have moose spray?!) More OXOXO Nanny
ReplyDeleteGrampa Bub and I experienced Justin and his "dam" obsession more than once!! We "toured" Cooley Dam one year, with Dave and Justin, and Justin asked so many questions no one else could get a word in! We definitely ended up knowing enough about "dams" to last us a lifetime! We're so thankful for all of those memories! Thanks, Amber,.....it feels like Justin is with you, and us, on this great adventure!!~ LOL Bub and Verna
ReplyDeleteThis has been such a wonderful journey to be a part of. I remember we went to Montana one year and the boys rode with us. All the way there Gage would ask "how much farther" and Justin would say "oh, bout another 30 miles" So,needless to say that stuck with Justin a long time. His answer was always "another 30 miles." Well,Jutty, now I can say to you "just another 30 miles" until we see you again! I love and miss him sooooo much.
ReplyDeleteLove you Amber,
Karen
