As we were passing through narrow rough roads in the middle of the wilderness, we realized we were getting low on fuel, and it wasn't looking like there was any civilization for a long while. Visions of us being stranded in the mountains and encountering our first grizzly were running through our minds...and then there it was, like a mirage in the desert: Toad River Lodge. We pulled straight up to what we thought was a gas pump. As I was getting ready to pump the fuel, Sara noticed all of the other travelers were fueling up over in a different area. Turns out that auto propane is not the same as auto fuel. Justin would have been....well, embarrassed and entertained. And we would have been out a car. So glad Sara is observant when it's convenient. It only seemed natural that we should leave a Piece of Plumey by the propane pump.
Piece 6: Toad River, B.C.
Memory #6:
When he saw the Mediterranean Sea in Italy, he was so excited that he had to jump in. All he had were the clothes he was wearing. He stuck out like a sore thumb on a beach full of tan Italians, most of the men in Speedos. Then he had to bask in the sun on the sidewalk while waiting for the bus to try to get dry.
Later, as we were passing through Watson Lake, we stumbled upon this amazingness.....
It was huge, with millions of signposts from all over the world. So we climbed to the highest point, and left another Piece of Plumey.
Piece 7: Sign Post Forest, Watson Lake, B.C.
Memory #7:
He begrudgingly joined his wife in a step aerobics class once. To be rebellious, he used tiny hot pink 1 lb weights for all the arm moves. While on his stomach stretching out and doing the “Superman” move, he couldn’t keep his balance. He finally said, loudly enough for all the other ladies to hear, “Amber, I think I’m teetering on my gut!” He always said he had a lot of money invested in that gut, and he was proud of it!
As a side point, we saw several moose, black bears, mountain goats, and tons of buffalo! It was our most adventurous day yet!
Now we need to see wolves and a grizzly!
Tonight we are in Whitehorse, the last big town we will go through until we get to Anchorage!

LOL.... I can just see Justin Teetering on his gut! It makes me think of the time when he and Megan were comparing their bellies. Megan was VERY pregnant, and Justin was...well...Justin was just Justin. We took a picture of both of their bellies. They were almost the same size. Now that is something to be proud of!! :)

ReplyDeleteDear Amber, your #6 piece has been found. Much confusion lead us to your site and I must say I've never seen anything like this before. Your story is amazing, and everyone from the Toad River Lodge sends their condolences for your loss.
ReplyDeleteWe are glad that you could stop in our little town, and we're happy we could provide you with gas! Haha
I am wondering if you would like to keep this Piece of Plumey going, if so, we would be happy to stick it in a new spot for others to find.
